Impotence and Acupuncture - Can the Latter Cure the Former?

AUTHOR: Matt Bening

Impotence And Acupuncture

When I first read about impotence and acupuncture, I was a little horrified at the prospect of an acupuncturist inserting needles into my organ! But it's gotten so bad that I'm willing to try anything. And, as I later found out, the procedure doesn't involve anything as horrible as I first imagined.

Impotence and Acupuncture - When Is It Right?

The medical profession, sensitive to the feelings of men all over the world, has come up with the term "erectile dysfunction" to replace the embarrassing word "impotence."

But whatever it's called, it all boils down to not being able to perform when you want to - despite certain, well, motivations that would get a normal male going for a long enough period.

I recently discovered that other symptoms also fall into the category of erectile dysfunction, including:

  • abnormal penile curvature when erect
  • prolonged pain when erect
  • ejaculating too soon

More than the physical aspect of erectile dysfunction, what's more damaging I think is the havoc it wreaks on confidence and self-esteem.

I don't know about you, but I'd rather go for a natural cure first before resorting to popping pills. If you're like me and are willing to try painless treatment and maybe taking some herbs, then acupuncture could be right for you.

Impotence and Acupuncture - Considerations

First off, choose your acupuncturist very well. One cure does NOT fit all. He should first make a diagnosis before attempting to stick needles anywhere on your body. Many things can cause erectile dysfunction. For instance, a majority of male diabetics also have the dysfunction.

Although according to Chinese healing theory there are two primary causes of impotence (Downward flow of damp heat or Mingmen-fire decline), I personally prefer a more Western medical diagnosis.

So if you can find a certified medical doctor who prefers a holistic approach to health (i.e., is willing to try natural healing methods alongside scientific ones) then get your treatment there.

Impotence and Acupuncture - What to Expect

Acupuncture sessions can reach anywhere from 10 to 20, often a single session per week. And remember I said I was afraid that they were going to poke my member with needles? It turns out they don't do that.

Impotence and acupuncture doesn't involve pain. The acupuncture points for erectile dysfunction are located on the limbs, back, and abdominal area NOT the penis. In fact, the closest my doctor got to it was my abdominal area.

If the dysfunction is related to some other illness or condition, like diabetes, a vascular disorder, or even aging, then your doctor will likely treat or address that first. Or you may both agree to start both scientific and acupuncture at the same time, especially if you're (understandably) impatient.

Finally, your doctor should also be open-minded enough to recognize if your so-called impotence is not just performance anxiety. Honestly, I think half my problem was just that. The needles in my stomach did have a soothing effect, so maybe that's what cured me... or maybe not.

Whatever it was, I'm glad my ordeal is over.
